About Pangea Propulsion:
We are a company dedicated to developing advanced propulsion systems for the space industry based on three key principles: high efficiency, sustainability, and reusability. We are revolutionizing the space industry with groundbreaking innovations that allow us to offer the best performance-to-cost propulsion systems.
Our goal is to be the propulsion provider for the next generation of spacecraft, which are essential to meet the demands and compete in the booming space market of the next decade.
We are a passionate, multicultural, and multidisciplinary team pushing the boundaries of what is possible in space propulsion technology.
We have already made history by successfully testing the world's first 3D-printed Methalox Aerospike engine, marking a significant milestone for the space industry.
We are looking for talented professionals to join our international team in Barcelona and Toulouse. We want to be a key player in improving diversity in the Aerospace sector, as, in Pangea, we believe that diversity (gender, age, race, sexual orientation, beliefs, disability, culture, etc.) is a key to success. Within Pangea, everyone can grow with the same opportunities. We encourage you to apply. Individually, we are different, but together we are an amazing team!
We are looking for a Propulsion Systems Engineer - Combustion Devices in Barcelona:
About the role:
We are seeking a Propulsion Systems Engineer - Combustion Devices who thrives at the intersection of deep technical design and strategic system-level thinking, with a strong foundation in combustion devices and an eye for full engine integration. If you enjoy working across departments — from hot-fire test teams to commercial leads preparing key customer bids — this role is for you.
As a core part of the propulsion team, you’ll lead the design and development of combustion devices, while also collaborating with the commercial team to help size propulsion systems for institutional and private customers. You’ll contribute to engine architecture decisions and ensure our propulsion offerings are well-scoped, competitive, and technically sound, from early bid stages to hardware delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
· Design and develop combustion devices for space propulsion systems: injectors, chambers, igniters, and gas generators.
· Contribute to engine system sizing and cycle architecture, considering performance, reliability, and mission-specific constraints.
· Support bid preparation for public/institutional or private propulsion opportunities (e.g., ESA, CNES, launcher primes), offering technical inputs and trade-offs.
· Act as a technical counterpart to the business team, helping define propulsion solutions from concept to PDR.
· Collaborate with the manufacturing and testing teams to ensure design feasibility and smooth build-test cycles.
· Help maintain and improve internal tools and templates for propulsion architecture sizing (Python, MATLAB, spreadsheets).
· Document designs, trade-offs, and outcomes to enrich our system-level knowledge base.
What you need to be successful:
· 2–4 years of experience in chemical propulsion design
· Hands-on knowledge of combustion device design, with exposure to regenerative cooling, injector layouts, and thermal management.
· Strong grasp of full rocket engine cycles (GG, SC, ORSC, pressure-fed) and the ability to size and balance subsystems.
· Experience supporting preliminary propulsion studies, bid proposals, or concept phase evaluations.
· Systems-oriented thinking with the ability to zoom out from your component to the full propulsion stack and mission use case.
· Comfortable collaborating with both engineering and non-engineering teams (commercial, strategy, partners).
Other useful skills:
· Fluent in English, French, and/or Spanish is a plus.
· Experience with RPA, Cantera, github.
Not hitting every requirement? Research suggests that some people tend to hesitate when it comes to job applications if they don't meet all the desired qualifications. Here at Pangea Propulsion, we're committed to fostering a workplace that values diversity, inclusivity, and authenticity. So, if you're enthusiastic about this role but your prior experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification mentioned in the job description, we still strongly encourage you to apply. You might just be the ideal candidate for this position or other opportunities within our organization.
